In the summer before my Senior year at Baylor, I was the maid-of-honor at a wedding at my childhood church. In1970, my path would cross with one of those American heroes. While I was attending college, enjoying extraordinary friendships, and earning a degree, many young men and women my age were serving the US Armed Forces.

When I accepted the truth of the Gospel at the age of nine, remarkably, I knew the one thing that would remain constant though all the trial and the change, all the way to this day in 2019!ĭuring my college years, our country was going through the dark days of the Viet Nam war. He’s coming again one day, and those who have trusted Him will be with Him eternally. When we receive His gift of forgiveness, grace and mercy by trusting Him, we bridge the gap between God and ourselves. In death Jesus paid our debt, and in rising to life again in 3 days, He gave us victory over sin and death. Jesus Christ, fully man and fully God, came to earth, and died in our place. He reached out to broken mankind by sending His only Son to restore us to a relationship with Him because He loves us. God the Creator, saw the sin and brokenness and emptiness in His once perfect world. I heard it for the first time at the church of my childhood and youth, Cockrell Hill Baptist Church in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, TX. But, one thing has remained constant throughout my lifetime, and it’s the simple gospel message. Schools have changed, churches have changed, politics have changed, society in general has changed. Since my birth in 1949, almost everything has changed: how we communicate, how we travel, what we eat, how we shop, how we get the days’ news, how we cook, hair styles and fashion.
